Virginia Doak

Virginia L. Doak, 87, passed away on December 6, 2007, and is now at peace with her husband of over 60 years.

Virginia was born Virginia L. Brand, the daughter of Claude and Myrtle Brand in Kingman, Kansas. She attended schools in the Kingman, Kansas area, and then attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. She was an avid Kansas State University sports fan.

While attending Kansas State University she met and married George L. Doak. They were married 63 and one half years when George preceded her in death on May 11, 2004. George and Virginia had two children, Richard L. (JoAnn) Doak in Cedar Park, Texas and their daughter Angela (Donovan) Craig in Charlotte North Carolina. Diana Doak of Topeka, Kansas, and her daughter Mindy (Mike) Sanders, and Virginia's only great-grandchild, Broc Sanders.

Virginia and George moved to Topeka, Kansas, and Virginia, who had been a full time wife and mother began employment with the Dillons/Krogers grocery stores, and retired as a bakery supervisor.

Graveside services will be held at noon on Friday, December 14, 2007 at Mount Hope Cemetery. Virginia will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 10, and visitation will be from 6 – 7:30 pm at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Memorial Contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 1315 SW Arrowhead, Topeka, Kansas 66604 or the American Heart Association, 5357 SW 7th Street, Topeka, Kansas 66606.
