Virginia Arleen Dicke, 97, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2017.
She was born along with her identical twin sister Vivian, on May 31, 1919 in Topeka to Earl and Faye (Shepardson) Bozarth. Virginia grew up in Topeka and graduated from Topeka High School in 1936. She attended Clarks School of Business and worked in various secretarial jobs until her marriage to Clarence Dicke on May 27, 1943. They moved to San Francisco, California where he was stationed during World War II while serving in the U.S. Navy and also lived in Brunswick, Georgia. After the war, they returned to Topeka where they made their home and welcomed two daughters into the family.
Virginia was a very accomplished seamstress and even learned how to upholster furniture along with her twin sister. She also loved to read and work crossword puzzles. After Clarence retired, they took many vacations with their camper all over the United States, including a six-week trip to Alaska.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband and her sisters Erma Dicke, Vivian Nelson and Audrey Metzger.
She is survived by two daughters, Deborah (Gary) Krause and Vicki (Rodney) Smith, four grandchildren; Emilee Haynes, Erin Brin, Lesley Tilley, Javin Hotchkiss, six great-grandchildren, her brother, Edwin Bozarth, sister-in-law, Dorothy Grillo and several nieces and nephews. They will all miss her dearly.
A graveside service will be at 12:00 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2017 at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, 3616 SW 6th Ave, Topeka, KS 66606.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
