Virginia Carlin

Virginia Carlin, 88, Topeka, died Monday, July 19, 2004, at a Topeka nursing home. She was born May 26, 1916, in Pender, Neb., the daughter of Henry W. and Marie Taus Sconce. Mrs. Carlin was a member of Hoyt Chapter No. 189 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Oakland United Methodist Church, Prime Timers and Golden Timers Bowling Leagues. She married Roy E. Carlin on Feb. 1, 1942, in Topeka. He died Nov. 16, 1987. Mrs. Carlin also was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother. Survivors include a son, Dr. James Carlin, Long Beach, Calif.; a daughter, Nancy Landis, Bixby, Okla.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a stepgreat-grandson. Graveside services and burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Hoyt Cemetery at Hoyt. Mrs. Carlin will lie in state after 2 p.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Heart of America Hospice, 3715 S.W. 29th St., Suite 20, Topeka, 66614.
