Viola Berry, 97, Topeka, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2009.
Viola was born September 12, 1911 in Bokoshe, OK, the daughter of Gailard E. and Dollie L. (Williams) Everhart. She was one of ten children and grew up in rural Bokoshe.
The family moved to Kansas City where she met her husband, Claude J. Berry. They married in 1931. Claude died in 1986. Following her husband's death, she moved to Florence, CO, and then to Topeka in 1999.
Survivors include son, Jim (Betty) Berry, Kingsport, TN; grandchildren, Glenn Berry, Denver, CO; Julie (John) Lyle, Topeka; and great grandchildren, Alexandra and Veronica Lyle. She was preceded in death by all of her siblings.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant View Cemetery in Shawnee, Kansas. Viola will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Monday and visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
