Vilma "Jane" Newman, 85, Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at Aldersgate Village.
Jane was born September 4, 1926 in Topeka, the daughter of William and Grace (Bailor) Hartner. She attended Topeka public schools.
She worked as a Nurses Aide at Stormont Vail Hospital for over 20 years.
Jane married Jack Newman on July 31, 1945 in Topeka. He died March 14, 1989. Survivors include daughters, Jackie (David) Barkley, Tecumseh, Roxann (Gregg) Williams, Topeka, Dawn Newman, Topeka; 7 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Charles Hartner, Topeka, Gary Hartner, Gladstone, MO; and sister, Helen Harding, Topeka. She was also preceded in death by sons, Michael L. Newman and Danny R. Newman.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at the Penwell-Gabel Family Center, 1940 NW Central.
Penwell-Gabel Mid Town is assisting the family with cremation arrangements. Private family inurnment will be in Penwel-Gabel Cemetery.
The family suggests expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to the Helping Hands Humane Society, 2625 NW Rochester Road, Topeka, Kansas 66617.
