Vida Payne

Leona Payne, 95, passed away June 28, 2008 at Topeka Presbyterian Manor. She was born March 3, 1913 to Hiram and Veva Parker in a part sod - part frame house in Graham County, Kansas. She was one of six children and lived most of her life in Topeka and Jefferson County.

On June 20, 1943 she married Van Payne; he preceded her in death in 1977. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Mrs. Payne is survived by her three children, James (Kathy) Payne of Austin, TX, Sharon Kester of Topeka, Keith (Judy) Payne of Florissant, CO; one brother, Thomas Eugene (Helen Ruth) Parker of Topeka; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Payne will lie in state after 3 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Memorial contributions in Mrs. Payne's name may be sent to Topeka Presbyterian Manor Good Samaritan Fund, Southern Care Hospice, or Community of Christ Church, all in care of the funeral home.
