Victor Paul Brunkow, 93, Topeka, passed away March 3, 2013. He was born January 20, 1920, in Onaga, KS, to Paul and Rheva Brunkow. During WWII Victor honorably served our country throughout the Middle East and Western Europe with the Merchant Marines.
Returning to Topeka, Victor began working for Safeway Grocery before joining Libby's Foods in 1950 where he enjoyed a highly successful sales career. In 1969, Libby's changed to using Sales Force Companies as their food broker and he remained there until his retirement in 1982. Victor prided himself on his excellent working relationship with Fleming Companies and member IGA Grocery retailers. Victor married Leona Jones in 1952 having one daughter, Paula. They enjoyed traveling and especially the many fishing trips and family visits to LaVeta, Colorado.
Victor is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Leona; his father & mother; and two brothers, Virgil and Roger. Victor is survived by his daughter, Paula Alvarez and husband, Adam; and grandson, Addison, of Albuquerque, NM; granddaughter, Sarah Kalivoda, Reno, NV; former son-in-law and dear friends, Phil and Susie Kalivoda, Edmond, OK; Dorothy Jones, Topeka, KS; Phyllis Jones, Kewanee, IL; and a host of family and friends.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at the Mount Hope Chapel, 4700 SW 17th St., Topeka, KS 66604. Mr. Brunkow will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604, where the family will receive guests from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Victor's name to the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, P.O.
