Vicki Ann Johnson

Vicki Ann Johnson, 69, Topeka, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2008 at Midland Hospice House after a courageous five year battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family.

Vicki was born March 3, 1939 in Wichita, the daughter of Carl and Doris (Hukle) Matthews. She was raised on a farm near Clearwater and attended Pleasant Valley and Clearwater Grade Schools and graduated from Clearwater High School in 1957. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Kansas State University in 1962.

She taught Accounting and Business at Wellington High School and was the Director of several Business Colleges in the Topeka area. Vicki completed her career working at Northern Hills Junior High, and was the cheerleading and dance team sponsor. She was a member of Northside Church of Christ, teaching Bible classes. She enjoyed playing the piano and traveling with her family.

She married Gary Johnson on July 21, 1962 in Clearwater. He survives. Other survivors include their children; Gary Johnson II, Cherie Ann Johnson, Angie Johnson Heinrich and husband, Kelly; grandson, Hunter Heinrich; mother, Doris Matthews; sister, Jacqueline Matthews; and brother, C.W. Matthews and wife Mary.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at Northside Church of Christ. Graveside services will follow at 4:00 p.m. at the Clearwater Cemetery in Clearwater. Vicki will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel after 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
