Vernon F. Siegel, 84, Topeka, passed away with family and friends at his bedside, on Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at Midland Hospice Care.
Vernon was born February 25, 1921 in Denver, Colorado, the son of Fredrick A. and Luella Andres Siegel. He was raised in Topeka and attended Topeka High School. He served in both the U. S. Army and U.S. Navy during World War II.
Vernon worked as a carpenter for Santa Fe Railroad and was an Ironworker Local #10. He was a foreman for B.B. Anderson Construction before retiring.
Vernon was active with the Arab Shrine where he was a member of the Provost Guard and Director's Staff. He was also a member of the Scotish Rite; Siloam Lodge #225; American Legion Post #1; and.First Assembly of God Church.
He married Evelyn A. Brown on October 8, 1946. She survives. Other survivors include three daughters; Wanda Albright, Alliance, Nebraska; Vickie Chaffee and husband, Stephen; Debby Shively and husband Kenneth; one son, Vernon F. Siegel, Jr. and wife Carmella; 14 Grandchildren; 23 Great Grandchildren; and 2 Great great grandchildren, and his faithful canine companion, Spoons.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 22, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel with burial at Mount Hope Cemetery. Mr. Siegel will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 P.M. on Friday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
