Vernal A. (Granny) Hinton, 80, of Topeka, entered into rest on Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at Lexington Park Acute Center.
Vernal was born May 1, 1926 in Madera, Calif., the daughter of Walter Elias and Ruby Dale (Burford) Bays. She grew up and graduated from Madera Union High and later attended Fresno State College.
She was united in marriage to Vernon O. Hinton on January 28, 1959 in Fresno, Calif.
In 1987, she retired from Pacific Bell and Southwestern Bell after 40 years of service as a long-distant operator and administrative clerk.
Granny has been a member of Terra Heights Baptist Church since 1959.
She will be greatly missed by her family: daughter, Carolyn and son-in-law, James Cain, granddaughter, Carrie L. and grandson-in-law Tim. S. Carey, great-granddaughter, Amber L. Carey, all of Topeka, and grandson, Jamison M. Cain of Lenexa. She was preceded in death by her husband, her son, Rodney G. Hinton, brother, Clyde A. Bays of Tacoma, WA, and two sisters, Lois Moran and Audrey Onwiler, both of Madera, Calif. Audrey entered into rest on January 1st, 2007.
