Verma "Dean" McDowell, 75, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2010.
Verma "Dean" McDowell was born April 9, 1934 in Garland, North Carolina; daughter of James M. and Fannie (Robinson) Smith. She graduated from Garland High School, NC. Dean married Marion D. "Mac" McDowell on August 22, 1952 in South Carolina. She was a part owner/operator of Car-Mar Enterprise (Vending) from 1969-1996 and worked at Tobacco Town from 1996-2004, retiring in 2004.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Donald Ray "Peanut" Smith.
Dean is survived by her husband, Mac McDowell, Maple Hill, a son, James McDowell and daughter in law Shirley McDowell, Topeka, a grandson Adam Flagg, Topeka; and a brother, James (Buddy) Smith, NC.
Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2010, Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka, 66604. Dean wanted everyone to dress casual for her service. Inurnment will be at a later date at Rochester Cemetery, Topeka. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Helping Hands Humane Society, 2625 NW Rochester Road, Topeka, KS 66617.
