Verlin Leroy Jones, 77, of Topeka, passed away Friday, October 6, 2023.
He was born April 29, 1946, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Thomas and Geraldine (Kennedy) Jones. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1965. He later attended Park College and graduated Cum Laud with two Bachelor Degrees in Human Resource Management and Information and Computer Science.
Verlin proudly served in the United States Air Force for over 22 ½ yrs. He served in Vietnam in 1968 through 1969 having arrived right before the Tet Offensive. He started his career in photo reconnaissance immediately prior to being deployed to Vietnam. In 1982 he moved career fields to missile maintenance on the Minute Men missiles. He received numerous awards and medals during his service.
Verlin's main focus was his spiritual life and lifting up others in need. He was a pillar of his spiritual community and would often encourage others that he met in life.
Verlin married Lois Stutz on August 22, 1969 in Topeka, Kansas. They had 3 children, Sara (Joergen) Laigaard, Madeline Ruth Jones, Brad (Jessica) Jones and Angi Taylor who is loved like a daughter. They also have 4 grandchildren, Darcy Hobbs, Lydia Hobbs, Tristan Hobbs and Maya Bailey and 3 great grandchildren, Kristian Jones, J.R. Overley and Wesley Watson. He was preceded in death by his Daughter, Madeline Ruth Jones and his parents.
A visitation will take place from 2:00pm-4:00pm on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home. With military honors being held at 3pm. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to our church, Calvary Chapel, which is located in Kaneohe on the windward side of Oahu.
