Verlee Reece Stone

Verlee Reece Stone, 86, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, September 2, 2010.

Verlee Reece Stone was born October 27, 1923 in Scandia, Kansas. Her parents were Carl and Emily Reece. Verlee graduated from Scandia High School and attended Kansas University where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She married her college sweetheart Dr. John W. Stone on July 31, 1943, at the Little Church Around The Corner, in New York City. They lived together happily for 67 years. In New York, Lee worked for Chase National Bank. The four great loves in her life were her family, her Beechcraft Bonanza airplane, playing golf and contract bridge. Verlee and John enjoyed traveling; she played golf in almost every state and visited many foreign countries. She was an exceptional pilot and loved to take her parents on trips in her plane.

She is survived by her husband John and three of their children and their spouses: Dr. John S. Stone (Judy) of Topeka, Lizabeth Stone Huston (Tim) of Overland Park, KS and David W. Stone (D'Wayn) of Highlands Ranch, CO; as well as nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Lee was preceded in death by her daughter Kathy.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stormont-Vail Foundation or Midland Care Hospice Services.

Memorial Service which will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 4, 2010 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 Wanamaker Road, Topeka, KS 66604. A private family interment will precede the memorial service.
