Vera D. Scott, 87, Topeka, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Plaza West.
Vera was born August 1, 1925 in West Frankfort, Illinois, the daughter of D.C. and Mary Alice (Jackson) Henderson. She graduated from Harrisburg High School in Harrisburg, IL.
She was a homemaker while she lovingly raised her children. She proudly worked as a Secretary in the Food service area at the Menninger Foundation for 15 years.
She was a member of First Congregational Church.
She moved to Atria Hearthstone in 2011 and cherished the friendships she made there. She enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the United States and overseas with her family and friends.
Vera married Kenneth W. Scott in 1946 in Harrisburg, Ill. They were happily married for 45 years. He died January 4, 1991. Survivors include daughters, Sharon Sue (Dave) Mee, Lawrence, Nancy (Jim) Schmidt, Dragoon, AZ, Deena (Bob) Rowland, Topeka; son, Randolph "Randy" Scott, Topeka; beloved grandchildren, Marissa Rowland, Geoff Harrison, Jessica (Ray) Billings and their children, Nora and Sophie, Charles Mee, Ashley Scott, Sarah (Chris) Bergin and their children, Tyler, Evan and Riley, Samantha (Brent Piepergerdes) and their children, Bebel and Jasper Piepergerdes; and sister, Bonnie Baldwin, Harrisburg, IL. She was also preceded in death by a son, Kenneth W. Scott, Jr; and brothers, Dwight, Harlan and Kenneth Henderson.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Vera will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
