Vera Campbell
Vera Lenora Campbell, 89, went to be with her Lord on January 1, 2006, at Aldersgate Village, Topeka, Kansas, where she had resided since July 27, 2005.
Vera was an only child, born January 29, 1916, on a farm near Breckenridge, Oklahoma, to William J. and Edith Romang Rogers. She spent her childhood in Adair and Ponca City, Oklahoma, moving to Enid, Oklahoma, at age 10. She graduated from Enid High School in 1933 and attended Enid Business College.
She married Melvin Campbell in 1934. He preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Campbell Roller and husband, Richard, Topeka; two grandchildren: Tamara Goodson, Topeka; Tracie Eklund and husband Mike and four great-grandchildren of Springfield, Missouri.
Vera worked for the Enid News & Eagle newspaper for several years and then for Prudential Insurance Company for 18 years before retiring in 1964.
Vera moved to Topeka in 1980 to be near her family. She was an active member of Town and Country Christian Church for many years having served as Prayer Line Chairperson and Tape Ministry Volunteer. She hosted a weekly Bible Study in her home for many years and enjoyed volunteering as a Ring-A-Day caller for the Friendly Visitors program for over 10 years. Vera enjoyed music, sewing, cooking and visiting with family and friends. She was loving, kind and supportive to all and will be deeply missed by many. Mrs. Campbell's greatest legacy to her family and friends was her abiding devotion to her faith and her unwavering trust in her Lord.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2006, at Town & Country Christian Church with Richard Sutherlin and Dale Greer officiating. Mrs. Campbell will lie in state at Penwell-Gable Mid-Town Chapel after 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2006 where the family will meet with friends from 6-8 pm. Graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 6 in the Enid Cemetery, Enid, Oklahoma. Memorials may be made to Town & Country Christian Church, 4925 SW 29th, Topeka, KS 66614.
