Veota Lucille (Madden) Ross, age 95, of Topeka, went to be with the Lord on April 15, 2023.
Veota was born on June 26, 1927 in Manzanola, Colorado, the daughter of Leo Benami and Hazel Marie (Baker) Madden. She grew up in rural Coffee County, Kansas and attended Sunflower Country School. When she was 16, she moved to Colorado Springs and worked at the Union Printers Home. In 1949, she moved to Topeka where she worked at Morrel's Packing Company until the 1950 flood and then worked at Snedeker's Café, and met Art.
She was united in marriage to Art on November 22, 1953 at her parent's home. They moved to Emporia for Art to finish college and after graduation, they moved back to Topeka where they had their children, Pam & Terry. Veota and Art were blessed with 35 years together before his passing on April 8, 1988.
Veota worked at Hallmark in Emporia and transferred to Topeka where she worked until her children were born. She later worked at The Menninger Foundation for 29 years and retired at 75. Then she started working at Hy-Vee in 2007.
Veota loved the Lord and her life revealed that in all that she said and did. She was a member at Central Church of Christ and she was very active in her work for the Lord. She also loved her family, many friends, and working. She enjoyed working where she was around a lot of people, making new friends, then having them over for tea.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Art, son, Terry, parents, and three brothers.
She is survived by her daughter, Pam (Chad) Landes of Topeka; grandson, Ryan (Emily) Landes; and three great-grandchildren, Ryan JaRon, Cain, and Lydia.
Visitation will begin at 10 am with memorial services to follow at 11 am on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Mid-Town Chapel. Private inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
