Valerie Jane Pritchard Maloney

February 27, 1963 — March 2, 2023

Valerie Jane Pritchard Maloney, age 60, died of cancer on March 2, 2023, in Independence, MO. She is survived by her husband, Jeff Maloney, sons Samuel (Sam) and Jesse, and siblings Jim Pritchard, Ann Duffy, Cindy Stafford, Michelle Stafford, Susan Stafford, and Tracy Maloney.

Born and raised in Topeka, KS, Valerie went on to graduate from Washburn University with a full Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication and another full Bachelor's degree in Psychology. She also attended Central Missouri State and the University of Kansas.

Val pursued a variety of careers, such as working at the Kansas Neurological Center, KMBC TV, and until 2021 the Internal Revenue Service. Most of this time she lived in the Blue Springs, MO, area; later she and her family moved to Grain Valley, MO.

Val was always busy supporting her family and helping friends and neighbors, but she also made time for her favorite activity, gardening. In addition, she enjoyed playing slots and buying lottery tickets, and loved hosting her extended family and friends on holidays, from water fights and fireworks on the Fourth of July to generous Christmas Eve buffets. Val was very determined and always had a ready smile, brightening the lives of all those who knew her.

The funeral service will be held at the chapel in Mount Hope cemetery in Topeka at 11 a.m., March 13, 2023.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests supporting Hospice Caregivers in your community, such as donating to the Hospice Foundation of America and Kansas City Hospice.
