Ulysses E. "Ozzie" or "Ed" Osborne, 87, Topeka, passed away Friday, July 22, 2016.
Ed was born April 29, 1929 in Norton, VA, the son of Ulysses and Allie (Freeman) Osborne. He graduated from J.I. Burton High School in Norton, VA. He served in the Army Air Corps and U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
He was employed by the Topeka Fire Department for 25 years, retiring in 1979 with the rank of Captain. He also worked for Sears for over 37 years.
Ed married Emma Smith on August 2, 1949 in Denver, CO. She survives. Other survivors include son, Dan (Pam) Osborne, Tulsa, OK; daughter, Melody (Steven) Osborne-Samuels, Kansas City, KS; 4 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great- grandchildren; sister, Emma Buckle; 4 nephews; and 1 niece. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmie Osborne; and great-grandson, Codey Manrose.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2016.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to March of Dimes or Disabled American Veterans.
