Torey M. (Burton) Hicks, 55, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2014.
She was born August 6, 1959, in Topeka the daughter of Terry and Leah "Tudy" (Larson) Burton. She was a 1977 Seaman High School graduate and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Washburn University in 1982.
Torey was employed by Stormont Vail hospital for 32 years and held numerous medical certifications; she retired in August of 2013.
Torey married Richard Hicks on November 5, 1988 in Topeka, KS.
Torey enjoyed genealogy, collecting Longaberger baskets, and spending time with her family, friends, and special work family.
Survivors include a husband, Richard Hicks of Topeka; father, Terry Burton of Topeka; a sister, Traci Burton of Topeka, two brothers, Trey (Deb) Burton of Topeka and Tristan (Lynn) Burton of Spokane, WA; 6 nieces and nephews; step-daughters, Theresa Hicks and Kelly (Jeff) Mason; step-son, Richard Hicks, Jr., grandsons, James Ryan Hicks and Joseph Allen Mason and great-grandson, Kolten James Mason, all of Topeka.
She was preceded in death by her Mother, Leah "Tudy" Burton.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 17, 2014 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka. Burial will follow at Rochester Cemetery in Topeka. Torey will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 16 at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00p.m.
