Tillie Becker, 90, of Topeka, passed away, Monday, October 28, 2002 at a Topeka nursing facility.
She was born August 27, 1912, the daughter of Roscoe and Eliza (Tidler) Baker.
She has resided in Topeka since 1926.
Tillie was an outstanding golfer who won the Kansas State Amatuer Golf Championship four times as well as winning city and club championships for forty five years. She had played with many of the golf professionals of her time including Babe Zaharias. In 1951 she played with Bob Hope, Danny Kaye, and Gordon MacRae in the Topeka Flood Relief Benefit.
Tillie served as a volunteer at Stormont-Vail Hospital for thirty seven years. She had served on the hospital auxiliary board. She had served as a representative for many golf related associations.
She married Marshall Becker August 1, 1930. He preceded her in death February 8, 1982. Survivors include:
one daughter, Marsha Williams Dothan, Alabama
two grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 31, 2002 at the Mt. Hope Chapel. Entombment will be in Mt. Hope Mausoleum. Mrs. Becker will lie in state after 12:00 noon Wednesday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.
