Thomas Shaughnessy

Thomas Felton Shaughnessy, entered into eternal life on February 22,

2008 at the age of 82 years, at Midland Hospice, Topeka, Kansas, after a short illness.

Tom was the second son born to Thomas Albert and Grace Naomi (Holt) Shaughnessy on December 27, 1925, in Hoyt, Kansas. He spent his early childhood in
Topeka, Kansas having graduated from Topeka High School in 1943, where he was on the football, basketball, track & softball teams.

During World War II, Tom enlisted in the United States Navy in which he served on the USS Marblehead and the USS Pittsburgh. He enjoyed telling the story of how his favorite ship, USS Pittsburgh, lost its bow during a typhoon in June 1945.

Upon returning to Topeka, Kansas after World War II, Tom worked for Santa Fe Railroad as a welder, till his retirement in 1985 after 37 years of service. He also trained and was a Fireman for the Santa Fe Railroad as well.

After retirement, Tom & Marjorie sold their home and lived what they called, the RV life. They both immensely enjoyed traveling across the United States to meet old and new friends and to square dance. When declining health forced them to settle down, they returned to Topeka, Kansas in 2003, to be closer to family.
