Thomas Johnson

Thomas A. Johnson "Tommy" , 90, of Topeka, KS, passed away on Friday, Jan 4, 2013 at St. Francis Health Center. He was born on Nov 23, 1922 in Montague County, Texas. He was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church and was a lifetime member of the Sunflower Lions Club of Topeka. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Betty Jean Vannatan.

He is survived by three daughters, Doris Chambers of Ramona, CA, Brenda Johnson of Pheonix, AZ, and Robin Killman of Mesa, AZ; one son, Craig Johnson of Pheonix , AZ; one brother, Jim Simmons; devoted friend and caregiver, Billie J. Crow of Topeka; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM on Thursday, Jan 10, 2013 at the Calvary Lutheran Church, 4211 NW Topeka Blvd., Topeka. Burial will follow at the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka. Tommy will lie in-state after 3:00 pm at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 10th and Lane, on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 and the family will receive friends from 5:00 -7:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Lions Eye Bank,Heartland Lions Eye Bank, 2 East 12th Ave, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
