Thomas (Tom) George Hoffman, age 78, died on Monday, December 27, 2021, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka, KS. Tom is survived by his children, Angela (John) Bollinger of Lawrence, KS, Amy (Dustin) Sink of Ottawa, KS, Ian (Angie) Hoffman of Kansas City, MO, Aimee (Brian) Stoy of Topeka, KS, his sister, Connie (Bob) Yocum of Kentwood, MI and 14 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cotton and Rosalyn Hoffman of McPherson, KS and his furry companion and best friend Oscar Dog. Tom was born on February 13, 1943, in McPherson, KS to parents Calvin (Cotton) G. Hoffman Jr. and Rosalyn I (Decker) Hoffman. He graduated from McPherson High School in 1961. On August 24, 1963, he married Linda Little in McPherson, KS. Their children were Angela and Amy. They later divorced. He graduated from McPherson College in 1971 with a degree in Education. In the same year he moved to Lawrence, KS to teach Industrial Arts at Lawrence High School. He taught there for several years before leaving to open his own auto repair business, Tom's Auto Service Center. He then worked for Cutler Repaving for several years. After that, Tom was self-employed with many different business ventures over the years from owning antique shops to buying and flipping houses. On October 28, 1983, he married Rita Grey in Lawrence, KS. Their children were Ian and Aimee. They later divorced.
In 1994, Tom went back to school and obtained his master's degree in Education with an emphasis in Behavior Disorders. In 1996, he began his career with Topeka School District 501 as a teacher at Capital City High School where he worked until his retirement. He also worked part-time at Harrah's Prairie Band Casino as a blackjack dealer. Tom was a very social and active man with lots of hobbies and interests. During his life he enjoyed go cart racing, wine brewing, building and flying model airplanes, BBQ contests, sausage making, playing cards, riding motorcycles, watching NASCAR and cooking new recipes. But, most of all he loved being on the water. Over the years, he had many boats on Lake Perry and enjoyed spending time socializing with friends on the dock or anchored out somewhere on the lake. He was always quick with a funny story or bit of trivia. He loved learning about things that interested him and doing his daily crossword puzzles. There is no funeral scheduled for Tom at this time. Family and close friends will gather in the spring for a private burial of his ashes in his hometown of McPherson, KS.
