Thomas Lowell Buckley, 76, died Wed. Nov. 9th, 2005, at Select Specialty Hospital,
Topeka, KS.
He was born March 16, 1929 in Fairmont, W. VA, the son of Harry D. Buckley and Dorothy V. Childs. After graduation from Fairmont High School, he attended a local college for 2 years and then joined the USCG in Sept. 1948. He was assigned to the Coast Guard Receiving Station in Cape May, NJ. He was assigned to permanent duty at the Cape May facility, followed by Electronics School in Groton. Conn. Upon completing school, he was stationed at AR&SB, at Elizabeth City, NC. He was honorably discharged May 1950. He returned to Fairmont, W.VA where he worked for Fairmont Supply Co. until 1954.
He married Ruth Jane Pemberton on June 27, 1953 at Cape May, NJ. They lived in Fairmont, W. VA until moving to NJ in 1954. Tom attended Trenton State Teachers College and upon graduation, he taught at Ocean City High School. Ocean City, NJ. He joined the FBI where he served 3 '/2 years before he and Jane became Distributors for Tupperware in Topeka, KS in 1970. They were Distributors for 24 years and retired in 1994.
His wife Jane, survives at home. Other survivors include a daughter, Dr. Janet Buckley of Flagler Beach, FL, two sons: Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Buckley of Baldwin, KS, and John D. Buckley of Raleigh, NC., and 4 grand sons.
Tom was an active member of Faith Community Church of Topeka. He was active in the Kidney Foundation for years and participated in the Ride For Life many times. He will be remembered by many as a strong, confident, friend with a keen sense of humor.
Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday Nov. 14th at the First Congregational Church, 1701 SW Collins Avenue. Private inurnment will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Heart Association,Memorial Processing Center, PO Box 1653, Topeka, KS 66601-1653 or to Faith Community Church Box 1398, Topeka, KS 66601.
