Theodore William Drescher, 93, died at Stormont-Vail Regional Hospital on August 17, 2009. He was born May 30, 1916, to William Harrison and Iola May Drescher. Following graduation from Topeka High School, he was employed as a cameraman & offset plate maker by Myers Yearbook Company for 13 years. He was later employed by Adams Business Forms, where he was the supervisor for the litho plate, camera, & negative section. He retired in 1979 after 31 years of service. Ted was a past president of the Topeka Club of Printing House Craftsmen and later became active in the Adams Retirees. A craftsman in his personal life as well, his work with wood and electronics led to many special hand built gifts for family. This work culminated in the building of a full-sized, double key-board electronic organ, a personal pride and joy that gave him countless hours of enjoyment playing classical organ music. Ted has been a long-standing member of Lowman Methodist Church and, in recent years, a resident of Aldersgate Village. A man of many talents, he will be deeply missed by his children and grandchildren and always remembered for the twinkle in his eye, his wry sense of humor, and his wide, welcoming grin.
He is survived by his daughter Bonnie Campbell (Larry) of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, his son Don Drescher (Ellie) of Olathe, Kansas, and his beloved grandchildren, Theodore (Tad) William Drescher II (Jen) of Tempe, Arizona, and Amanda Drescher (fiancé Joe Rexwinkle), also of Olathe. He was looking forward to the birth of Tad and Jen's first child, his first great-grandchild. He is survived, also, by his sister, Marian Myers of Topeka and four nephews, all of Topeka, as well as other relatives and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 70 years, Bertha Drescher, and a niece, Joyce LeeAnn Myers.
A visitation will be held Thursday, August 20th from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at Penwell-Gabel Midtown Chapel in Topeka. Services will be held Friday, August 21st at 10:00am at Lowman United Methodist Church, 4000 SW Drury Lane in Topeka, followed by interment in Westlawn Memorial Gardens in Topeka. Memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund of Aldersgate Village, 7220 SW Asbury Drive Topeka, KS 66614 or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Kansas Chapter, 555 N. Woodlawn Suite 113 Wichita, KS 67208.
