Theo May Avis
Theo May Avis, 90, of Topeka, passed away May 26, 2009 at Brewster Place.
Theo was born December 22, 1918 in Topeka to Arthur and Vera May (Marlatte) Anderson. She was a 1938 graduate of Topeka High School and wed Bud Avis April 2, 1938. Later in life, Theo worked in medical billing until her retirement in 1981 from Dr. Prokop's office in Topeka. She was a member of Medical Assistant's Auxiliary and a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church. Theo enjoyed travel and camping with her family. She was also an avid card player.
Survivors include her two children; Sherry (Mike) Maike of Topeka and Steve (Nancy) Avis of Steamboat Springs, CO, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and two sisters; Phyllis VanWinkle of Manassas, VA and Dorothy Anderson of Sarasota, FL. Theo is preceded in death by her loving husband, Bud, and a brother, Gaylord Anderson.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 30th, 9:30 am, at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Dr. Max Clayton of First United Methodist Church will officiate. Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Heart of America Chapter, 4125 SW Gage Center Drive, Ste LL15, Topeka, KS 66604, or to Brewster Place Foundation, 1205 SW 29th Street, Topeka, KS 66611.
