Theo Enochs

Theo LaVonne Kendall Enochs passed away on April 15, 2008 following an extended illness. She was born April 15, 1927 in Topeka, Kansas. She was the only child of Leroy L. Kendall and Edna Wells Kendall. She was the last of 21 grandchildren born to Lawrence Romulus Wells and Margaret Elizabeth West Wells. She was raised in the old City of Oakland community. She attended Oakland Elementary School which, at that time, was held in the former Oakland High School. She graduated from Cyrus K. Holliday Junior High in spring 1942 and from Topeka High School in 1945. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Washburn University in 1949.

She married Harold Leroy Enochs, Jr. on May 6, 1949. They shared 58 years together. He survives.

While a student at Topeka High she worked on the WWII rationing board assisting with the distribution of ration books. She worked in the credit department at Pelletier's Department store while a student at Washburn, and for several years following. Following the demise of her parents in 1967 and 1974, she worked in the Registrar's Office at Washburn University. She became Asst. Registrar and Degree Auditor for several years. She retired in 1991.

She was a pianist and accompanied weddings, vocalists and funerals in Topeka during the 40's and 50's and in other locales where they lived. She had lived one year in Maryville, Tenn. when her husband was recalled to the Air Force during the Korean War. She had also lived in several other Kansas communities where her husband was an Elementary Principal. She had lived in Tecumseh for over 30 years. She was a former member of the Oakland Methodist Church and also the Rossville Methodist Church.

Besides her husband, she is survived by the joy of her life, a son, Daniel Lee Enochs of Topeka.

At Mrs. Enochs request, no services will be held and the body will not lie in state. Private burial will be held at Topeka Cemetery.
