Thelma Louise Berlin, 88, of Topeka, left her earthly body, Friday, January 18, 2013.
She was born September 21, 1924 in Topeka, KS, the daughter of Howard Z. and Cleva (Benton) Hawks. She was a 1942 graduate of Topeka High School.
Mrs. Berlin and her husband owned and operated Berlin-Wheeler Inc. until 1967. She was later employed by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas, retiring at age 62. She would relocate to Tucson, AZ in 1987, moving back to Topeka in 2010 where she was a resident of Atria Hearthstone.
Thelma was a member of P.E.O. of Topeka and Tucson. Her favorite activities included golfing, bowling and she was an avid bridge player.
Thelma married George F. Berlin for 40 years. Survivors include a daughter, Jeanne (Bob) Roberts, Topeka and a son, Randy (Carol) Berlin, Carmel, CA; four grandchildren,Emily Roberts, Tara (Pete) Heller-Berlin, Johann (Uma) Berlin,and Kierstyn Berlin; three great-grandchildren, Zabelle and Simon Papazian, Julian Lips. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Doral, Pete, Warren and Bill Hawks and a sister, Beulah Muck.
Honoring Thelma's request, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life gathering will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the Penwell-Gabel Family Center, 1940 NW Central Ave., Topeka. Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel is assisting the family.
