The Rev. Barbara K. Bloxsom, 73, of Topeka, died on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at her home.
Mother Barbara was born on May 1, 1941 in Beardstown, IL the daughter of Werner H. and Betty (Condit) Kessel. She graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka, IL and from Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA. She continued her graduate studies at the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, TX where in May of 1988 she earned a Master's of Divinity degree.
Mother Barbara was married to Raymond A. Bloxsom, Jr. on June 20, 1964; he preceded her in death on April 1, 1994. After their marriage, Mother Barbara and Ray made their home in Topeka.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by one daughter, Amy Elizabeth Bloxsom.
Survivors include her sister, Harriet (Charles) Young, daughter, Jennifer (Todd) Haag, sons, Raymond Bloxsom, III and Christopher (April) Bloxsom, six grandchildren, Ashley (Jen Crawford) Haag, Kelsey Haag, Bailey Bloxsom, Brayden Bloxsom, Raymond Bloxsom, IV and Tate Bloxsom.
She was ordained Deacon and Priest in 1990. She served churches in Ann Arbor, MI, Troy, NY, Mills River, NC, and retired as Vicar of St. Matthew's Church in Cedar Vale, KS and Rector of Church of the Epiphany in Sedan, KS. After retirement, she served as the Assistant to the Rector of St. David's Episcopal Church in Topeka.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 15 at St. David's Episcopal Church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. David's Episcopal Church.
