Terry Wayne Heidner, 77, of Berryton, passed away on Wednesday, July 27 following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born January 31, 1945, in Ottawa, Kansas, the son of Lloyd and Julia (McFadden) Heidner. He was a 1963 graduate of Pomona High School and received a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Kansas.
Terry was employed by the Kansas Department of Transportation, serving that agency for 40 years until retiring in June 2007 as the Director of the Division of Planning and Development.
Terry married Linda McIntosh in 1965. They later divorced. Survivors include two sons Troy and Scott of Lawrence and a granddaughter Rachel Heidner of Tecumseh. Also surviving is his beloved longtime companion Marilyn Griggs-Kozloff.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sharon Winans.
Terry enjoyed time with family and friends and loved helping others. He also enjoyed gardening, flowers, fishing, and cooking. He served for many years as a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society in his retirement years.
Terry was also a musician and singer and played in classic country and rock bands for 47 years all over northeast Kansas. He especially enjoyed his last 15 years playing with his two sons and friend Bill Thompson in the band Rural Route 4.
Honoring his request, cremation is planned. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 on Monday August 1, at the Penwell-Gabel Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604. A memorial service will be held at 3pm on Tuesday, August 2 at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Pomona, KS.
