Terence "Terry" Lynn Essman, 67, of Meriden, passed away Monday, July 17, 2023.
He was born March 16, 1956, in Topeka, KS, the son of Samuel and Virginia (Proud) Essman. He graduated from Seaman High School in 1974.
Terry worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield for 31 years, retiring in 2019 as a computer analyst. Prior to his employment with BCBS, he served as a sheriff's deputy for Shawnee County.
Terry first married Barbara Jane Foster in 1978, married 11 years before her passing in 1989. Terry would then marry Linda Christine Walters on February 11th, 1991 in Miami, Oklahoma. They had two children, Nick and Erika.
Terry had a passion for the outdoors, especially grilling and camping. His grilled specialties included barbecue chicken and steaks. Terry had the best sense of humor and was the ultimate prankster who especially tormented his mother, Virginia, the most. However, everyone he loved was fair game. He was a family man and always was passionate about supporting Nick and Erika in all their endeavors, especially sporting events. He also was a huge Kansas Jayhawks and Kansas City Chiefs fan. Terry loved animals, especially dogs, owning many over the course of his life.
He leaves behind his Wife Linda Essman; Children, Nick (Danielle) Essman and Erika (Chuck) Dixon; step-son Robert Walters. Previous Wife (1978) Barbara Jane Foster & step children Bobby Wells Jr., Cindy Wells- Kirkwood; grandchildren, Jayce, Addelynn, and soon to be born, Wyatt; and his siblings, Bennet "Benny" Essman, Keith Essman and Crystal Essman. He was preceded in death by his father and step-mother, Samuel and Patricia Essman; mother, Virginia Carol Essman; his siblings, Diane Essman and Randall "Randy" Essman, and first wife, Barbara Essman.
A memorial ceremony will be held at 4:00 pm., Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at Penwell-Gabel - Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka, Kansas 66604. Memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands Humane Society 5720 SW 21st, Topeka, KS 66604.
