Sylvester "Sonny" Stadler, 81, of Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Select Specialty Hospital at St. Francis. He was born on April 1, 1928 in Rossville, the son of Nicholas and Barbara Weler Stadler. He was an Army veteran during the Korean War. Sonny was employed as a car foreman supervisor for the Santa Fe Shops for 42 years before retiring on December 1, 1986. He was a member of St. Matthew Church and the V.F.W. Sonny married Gladys Jacobson on June 11, 1955 in Topeka. She preceded him in death on October 7, 2002. He was also preceded in death by eight siblings. Survivors include one daughter, Melanie Stadler of Topeka, one son, Matthew (Mari) Stadler of Tecumseh, two grandchildren, Maggie and Mason, one brother and two sisters. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Matthew Church. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery where Military Honors will be provided by a burial detail from Fort Riley, Kansas. A Parish Rosary will be recited at 1:00 p.m. Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to TARC, 2701 SW Randolph St., Topeka, KS 66611.
