Suzanne Lee Miller, 74, of Wakarusa, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2020.
She was born March 4, 1946, in Manhattan, Kansas, the daughter of Fay E. and Estelle Lorraine (Toburen) Sears.
Suzanne graduated from Washburn Rural High School and from the University of Kansas.
Suzanne married Larry Miller on July 9, 1994 in an outdoor ceremony at Lake Shawnee.
She worked a variety of occupations during her life including an occupational therapist and with the United States Weather Bureau. Before her retirement in 2011 she worked for the Topeka Shawnee County Public Library in the Bookmobile Department for 20 years.
Suzanne was an accomplished photographer. She enjoyed photographing a variety of subjects ranging from families to pets, to nature, wildlife, and historically locations, and had several of her photos featured on posters, post cards, and in books. She also loved to travel and after her retirement visited a number of countries around the World. She and her husband, Larry, also took many trips around Kansas and many other areas of the United States where they took photos, hiked, camped, and enjoyed one of their latest hobbies which was metal detecting. Some of their best memories came from winter trips to the Apalachicola area of Florida where they often assisted with wildlife research and documented their adventures with their photos. Mostly Suzanne enjoyed life on their ten acres near Wakarusa where she and Larry planted and maintained areas of grasslands and wooded areas near Colby Creek. Life was always interesting, and their rescue dogs over the years (Comet, Halley, Baxter, and their most recent, Maxwell Smart) made for never having a dull moment.
She is survived by her husband of the home, Larry, her sister Sherry Johnson of Ringglod, Georgia, her brother Steve Sears of San Francisco, two nieces, Kimberly Antone and Kelly Wortel, and of course her latest rescue dog, Maxwell Smart of the home as well.
A celebration of Suzanne's life will be scheduled for a later date.
