Steven K. Stitt, 63, Topeka, died Saturday, October 5, 2013 at St. Francis Health Center.
Steve was born December 9, 1949 in Topeka, the son of Dorothy Barth and Willis Gordon Stitt.
In the absence of his father, Steve was raised by his mother and maternal grandparents, Chet and Beulah Robinson. Steve graduated from Highland Park High School. He was baptized into the Christian faith.
Steve worked for GMD of Topeka for several years and later was a certified nurse's aide and he transported nursing home patients to hospitals. Steve, along with his Uncle Bill Elliott, and his friend, Mike Frost, coached top-rated women's slow-pitch softball teams for many seasons. He loved traveling and fishing.
Steve was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Chester and Beulah Robinson of Topeka; and his paternal grandparents, Ludell and Cora Stitt, of Quenemo. Steve is survived by his mother, Dorothy, Topeka; his father, Willis, San Paulo, Brazil; one sister, Paula Barth; and a niece, Courtney Barth, both of Topeka; two aunts he was raised with, Beverly (Gordon) Kesler, Joyce Elliott; and another aunt, Rose Robinson, all of Topeka; and numerous cousins who were all very close to Steve.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Steve will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
