Stella Mae Dykes, age 77, of Topeka, died Monday, September 2, 2002 at a Topeka care center.
She was born November 8, 1924 in Humbolt, Nebraska to Pearl and Bowen Henry Corning. She attended shcools in Nebraska. She was a homemaker and also provided care for the elderly.
She was a member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church.
She married Leonard Dykes on June 5, 1944 and they were married until his death in 1968.
Survivors include a son, Larry Dykes of Topeka, four grandchildren, Kelly Sommers, Christopher Dykes, and Steven Dykes, all of Topeka, Paul Dykes of Warrensburg, Missouri, three great-grandchildren, Kyle Sommers, Skyler Dykes and Hannah Dykes all of Topeka, one brother, Wayne Corning of Topeka, and one sister, Viola Marsh of Plattsmouth, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by a sister, Nadine Corning, and two brothers, Jim Corning and Russell Corning.
Services will be held at Penwell Gabel Funeral Chapel on Friday, September 6 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be in Rochester Cemetery.

Mrs. Dykes will lie in state after 1:00p.m., Thursday, September 5, 2002 at Penwell Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m.
