Stanton Lloyd "Stan" Johnson, 71, of Topeka, died at his home on Saturday, June 28, 2014, son of Lloyd Edward and Rose Marie (Nelson) Johnson
Stan attended Topeka public schools and graduated from Washburn Rural High School in 1961 where he was a member of a state championship basketball team. He graduated from Ottawa University in 1965 with a bachelor's degree in mathematics. Following graduation, he served in the Kansas Army National Guard. His career with the ATSF/BNSF Railway Company as a computer systems analyst spanned thirty years.
Stan's deeply held religious beliefs led to a career sabbatical involving study at the L'Abri Institute in Switzerland where he met his future wife. Stan and Lynda Ross of Yonkers, New York, were married and later divorced. This union produced a son, Andrew Stanton "Drew" Johnson.
In addition to his son Drew of Jacksonville, FL, Stan leaves a granddaughter, Luna Rose Johnson; a sister, Anita (Robert) Epps, Topeka; and a brother, Mark (Kristine) Johnson, Lawrence; and four nieces and nephews.
Stan was a gentle, loyal and decent man and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
A funeral ceremony will be 11 a.m., Monday, July 7, 2014 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Private interment will be at the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka. Stan will lie in state from Noon to 5 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.
