Stanley O. Heisey, 89, Topeka, died Monday, January 12, 2004 at Bethany Home in Lindsborg.
He was born May 18, 1914 in rural Marshall County near Vilets, Kansas the son of Solomon B. and Marie Hanson Heisey.
He attended Frankfort High School. During the Depression, Stanley went with friends to the state of Washington where he worked in the orchards. He entered the military in February of 1941. Stanley served in Panama, and then in Europe, where he was twice a prisoner of war while serving as a combat infantryman. In August of 1945, he was honorably discharged. Until his retirement, Stanley was employed by the Colmery-O'Neil Veterans Administration Hospital in Topeka.
He was a 58-year member of Capital Post #1 American Legion.
Survivors include 2 sisters, Wilma Johnson of Home, KS and Marno Engler of Auburn, KS, and a brother, Wesley Heisey of Topeka.
Stanley was an avid follower of all his extended families' activities and will be remembered as a "good guy" by the many friends who knew him. He was always there for those who needed his help.
Services will be 1:00 pm Friday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel with interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Mr. Heisey will lie in state after 9 am Thursday at the funeral home.
