Sonya Z. Porter, 74, of Topeka/Wichita passed away February 5, 2009, at Stormont-Vail Hospital. She was born on July 17, 1934, in Kansas City, MO to Paul and Bebe Zaremba.
She was a graduate of Wichita High School North and Wesley Hospital School of Nursing.
Sonya dedicated 28 years of service to Wichita State University Student Health Center as a registered nurse/nurse practitioner. She retired in 1994.
She married Harold R. Porter at First Presbyterian Church in Wichita, KS in August 1955. Harold preceded her in June 1969.
Survivors include daughter, Dawn Porter (Mark Schoen) of Seattle; son, Bruce Porter (Kathleen) of Topeka and daughter, Jean Silesky (Carlos) of Albuquerque and four grandchildren, Carlos D. Silesky, Allyson Porter, Ericka Silesky and Mitchell Porter.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel is handling arrangements.
