Background: Graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1927 and the University of Illinois in 1932 with a BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He also studied at Kansas State Teacher's College at Emporia, Kansas, Pittsburg, and Washburn University. He was employed in October of 1934 as an engineer by the Capital Gas and Electric Co in Topeka which later became The Gas Service Co. He became Superintendent of The Gas Service Co in 1941 and the Topeka Division Manager in 1960. He held that position until his retirement on October 1, 1974. He was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon and Alpha Phi Omega Fraternities. He was a member of Siloam Lodge #225, Topeka Consistory, the Arab Shrine Temple of Topeka, Topeka Kiwanis Club, and the Association of United States Army. He was also a member of the Naval Reserve Assoc., AARP, Kansas engineering Society, and the National Society of Professional Engineers. He was a registered engineer in Kansas. He had served as President of Kiwanis and the Association United States Armyl. He was an eagle scout and served on the Jayhawk Area Council Board. He was a member of the
Executive Committee of Region 8 and later the North Central Region of the Boy Scouts. For several years he was in charge of the "Report to the Governor" by the Boy Scouts of Kansas. In February 1961 he was given the Silver Beaver Award by the Jayhawk Area Council, BSA and in 1971 he received the Silver Antelope Award at the annual meeting of Region 8 BSA. He served in the United States Navy during WWII and retired as a Lieutenant Commander in 1947. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Topeka, Kansas. He had served as Ruling Elder and Trustee.

Relatives: Married to: Dorothy Eleanor Herrick on October 9, 1937. She died May 18, 1960. He married Jean Estelle McDermond on July 9, 1961. She passed away October 2, 1982.

Burial: Burial will be private at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka, Kansas

Visitation times, place: There will be no visitation at Penwell Gabel Mid Town Chapel. The family will receive friends after the memorial service at First Presbyterian Church.
