Sidney E. Mayfield, 88, Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at a local care center.
Sidney was born May 20, 1920 in Lampasas, TX, the son of Sidney E. and Buena Mayfield.
He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1941, retiring after 28 years of service.
Sidney married Albertha Jean Allen on February 15, 1947 in Topeka. They recently celebrated their 62nd Wedding anniversary. She survives. Other survivors include daughter, Karen Mayfield, Portland, OR; son, David Allen Mayfield, Tualatin, OR; and granddaughter, Sara Emily Mayfield, Portland, OR.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 30, 2009 at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Sidney will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel after 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
