Shirley Jean Durham Wood, 70, of Topeka, died Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at Midland Hospice House.
She was born November 3, 1935 at Ava, MO, the daughter of James L. and Lessie M. Durham.
Shirley was a 1954 graduate of Ava High School where she was active in the Pioneers for Christ and sang in several mixed chorus groups.
A Topeka resident for over 40 years, she moved here following her marriage to Hershel C. Wood on July 2, 1955. He preceeds her in death.
Shirley worked both in the Intensive Care Unit and the Social Work Dept. at Stormont Vail Regional Medical Center before retiring as the Supervisor of the Telecommunications Dept. in 1992 after 30 years of service.
Survivors include 2 sons; Charles K. Wood of Kansas City, MO, Terry L. Wood of Topeka and 1 daughter, Cynthia A. Wood of Topeka; 5 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.
Ms. Wood will lie in state after 2:00 pm, Sunday, April 30 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 pm, that evening. A private graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday May 1 at the DeSoto Cemetery in DeSoto, KS.
