Shirley Jane Rausch, 93, Topeka, passed away October 30, 2016, at a local hospital.
She was born September 21, 1923, in Topeka, the daughter of Hazel Klingaman Rogers and Dean F. Rogers.
Shirley graduated from Topeka High School in 1941 and attended Washburn University, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, editor of the Washburn Review, and recipient of the Sophomore Cup. Shirley married her high school sweetheart, Fred W. Rausch, Jr., on October 30, 1943, at Truax Field at Madison, Wisconsin. Fred preceded her in death on April 5, 2015.
Shirley was a homemaker for many years and volunteered for numerous organizations, including Kiwanitas and Stormont Vail Hospital Auxiliary. She was deeply involved in Republican politics and served in several positions, including president, of the Kansas Federation of Republican Women, and was a member of the board of directors of the National Federation of Republican Women. Shirley was a precinct committee chair for many years and volunteered for many local, state and national campaigns, and was a delegate at the 1976 and 1984 Republican National Conventions. Shirley worked as an engrosser of bills for the Kansas Revisor of Statutes during legislative sessions for more than 30 years before retiring at age 80. Shirley was a life-long active member of the First Congregational Church and served as the church's Doorstep coordinator for 25 years. She was an avid bridge player and loved to travel.
Shirley is survived by her children Judy (Roy) Marks, Topeka; Steve (Valerie) Rausch, Corona, California; Nancy (Mark) Reddy, Topeka; and Debbie Marvin, Topeka; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jerry Rogers, Lawrence.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2016, at the First Congregational Church, 17th and Collins, Topeka. Visitation with family will precede the service at 10 a.m. Burial of cremated remains will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church, Doorstep, or the Brewster Foundation.
