Shirley Ann (Painter) Jacobson, 88, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2023.

She was born October 5, 1934, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Eugene and Flossie (Jones) Painter. When born, Shirley weighed only 3 pounds and was not expected to survive. Living 88 years and beating cancer 3 times, her motto was "I sure showed them." She graduated from Topeka High School in 1952.

She was a member of the First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ, in Topeka.

Shirley bowled for over 60 years. She also taught classes to the Bowling Youth Group for several years.

She played in four different bands playing trumpet; Santa Fe Band (70 years), Fairlawn Road Swing Band, Topeka Polka Band and North Topeka Community Band.

Shirley created and founded the Painter Family Marching Scholarship through Kansas State University. This funds scholarships for trumpet players in the Kansas State Marching band, the Pride of Wildcat Land.

Shirley collected clowns and she loved to make people laugh.

She is survived by her nephews and nieces, Greg (Ann) Painter, Dee Wilson, Sara (Jeff) Gragg, Bill (Darcy) Foster, Bruce Foster, Brad (Jan) Foster, Brian Foster, Danny O'Dell and Vicki Painter. A special recognition also needs to be acknowledged for Elsie Ingels, Shirley's dearest and closest friend for over 50 years. She is preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Flossie Painter; siblings Glen Painter and Arlene Foster, and nephew, David O'Dell.
