Shirley A. Meek

Shirley A. Meek, 82, Topeka, passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2011 at a local care facility.
Shirley was born February 1, 1928 in Emporia, the daughter of L.G. and Laverne (Blake) Bean.
She graduated from Topeka High School in 1946 and Washburn University with a degree in Music Education in 1951.
Shirley married Fred Meek on August 9, 1952 in Topeka. Together they owned and operated Meek's Inc. Office Supply for 37 years.
She was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota.
Survivors include son, Paul David (Mary) Meek, Topeka; daughter, Diane (Jay)Gillenwater, Topeka; and grandchildren, Rose Gillenwater Cork, Grace and Emma Meek. She was preceded in death by her husband on November 29, 2000, and brother, George Hayes.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
