Sheryl Ann Foy

February 2, 1945 — March 25, 2025

Topeka

Sheryl Ann Foy, 80, of Topeka, passed away on March 25, 2025 at Stormont Vail Hospital.

She was born on February 2, 1945 to Merle and Phyllis (Barnard) Ehresman at Hutchinson, KS. She dearly loved her sister Linda Springer (deceased) of Bethany, Oklahoma who was one year her senior, and her baby brother Richard Ehresman from Hutchinson, Kansas.

On June 7, 1963, Sheryl married Tami J. Foy in Mason City, Iowa. They have lived in many locales over the years such as West Point and Cedar Rapids Iowa, Minneapolis Minnesota, and Manhattan Kansas - making lots of close friends along the way. In 1977 they settled in Topeka, Kansas. Their commitment and dedication to each other over 61 years really was evident in the final months of Sheryl’s life.

They had two children; Todd in 1966 and Tori (Kurth) in 1970. Sheryl loved being a mother and grandmother more than anything else. She was in the delivery room for the birth of her first grandchild Todd Foy, Jr and helped raise him in the first years of his life. Indeed, she helped shape all her grandchildren into the caring, loving human beings they are today. This would be her greatest achievement.

Sheryl worked as a Bank Teller for Red River National Bank in Grand Forks, North Dakota and later became a merchandiser for American Greetings in Topeka, Kansas for over 25 years.

She loved her jobs but her church, charity and community work are what defined and energized her. She was Missionary President and longtime board member at First Church of the Nazarene for many years and volunteered in a variety of capacities at her church from the time she became an adult, and even before that. She volunteered at the Topeka Rescue Mission, participated in multiple mission trips overseas, was politically active supporting life, education, and family initiatives, and loved helping people individually who were experiencing hardship in their lives.

Her numerous friends and family were an ever expanding circle right to the end; Even bonding with her caregivers and medical staff as she fought her terminal medical condition and dementia in 2025. Anyone who knew Sheryl, was a big fan of her. She knew no enemies. Some people quipped Sheryl had “the hotline to Jesus” as her prayer life was active and fervent.

Sheryl’s friends and family circles were so intermixed that it was impossible to tell where one let off and the other one started. It was a seamless mix that harmonized the most beautiful group of friends and family who helped carry her into the arms of Jesus from January to March of 2025; an unbroken chain of caregivers that included Kathie Wallentine, Rhonda Hendrix, Renee Knox, Becky Foy, and her daughter Tori with special assists from her grandchildren Summer Selway and Hayden Dreyer.

Her very essence lived and breathed Jesus. Her favorite drawing of her Lord and Savior was of Jesus smiling. She always lamented that Jesus always looked so serious in paintings and drawings because she knew Jesus was filled with joy, love, and laughter. Now she is in the smiling, happy, arms of Jesus where she has always longed to be. Earth was her journey but heaven was her home. Dance with the angels, Sheryl, sing praise to your Creator for all eternity.

Sheryl is survived by her loving husband; Tami, son; Todd Foy, Sr., daughter; Tori (Todd) Kurth, grandsons; Todd Foy, Jr., Christian Foy, Marcus Dreyer, Hayden Dreyer, Paxton Dreyer and their special only granddaughter; Summer (Dreyer) Selway.

She was preceded in death by her father; Merle E. Ehresman, mother; Phyllis Ehresman, granddaughter; Trinity Lynn Foy, and sister; Linda (Ehresman) Springer.
