Sherman C. "Sam" Larsen, 76, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, September 5, 2004 at Plaza West. He was born on October 5, 1927 in Powers, Oregon, the son of Joyes E. and Pearl E. Clark Larsen. He was a paratrooper serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 31 years before retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Salvation Army and the American Legion. He married Edna M. Klassen on September 16, 1951 in North Platte, Nebraska. They moved to Topeka in 1955. She survives. Other survivors include three children, Jan Larsen of Dodge City, Ks., Debi and Kevin Nimz of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Scott and Diane Larsen of Topeka, four grandchildren, Kye Nimz of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Kaleb Nimz of Belfast, Ireland, Kara Nimz of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Sherry Siegel of Topeka, and two step-sisters, June and Donna of North Platte, Nebraska. He was prededed in death by his brothers, Marion "Gus" Larsen and his two step-brothers, Chester Stewart and Lawrence Stewart. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Memorial Park Cemetery where military honors will be presented by Philip Billard Post No. 1650, V.F.W. Mr. Larsen will lie in state after noon Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday.
