Sharman Mullen Blasing, 60, Topeka, passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2012 at Midland Hospice House after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on December 5, 1951 in Russell, Kansas, the daughter of W. Gale and Raeme Lee (Wamsley) Mullen.
Sharman graduated from Erie High School and Kansas State University, cum laude, with a degree in clothing and retailing. After graduation, she worked for the Jones Store in Kansas City, Missouri and later for Marling's Home Furnishings in Topeka and Nebraska Furniture Mart in Kansas City, Missouri. Sharman's passion was antiquing and while living in Lexington, Missouri, she owned an antique store, Bit of Whimsy. She also maintained booths at antique malls in Kansas City and Topeka.
In 1975, she married H. Dieter Trost, they had two daughters. They later divorced. In 2005 she married Steven A. Blasing in Topeka. He survives. She is also survived by her two daughters, Alexa (Bryon) Cobb of Lathrop, MO and Lyndee Trost of Kansas City, MO; step children, Jeremy (Cara) Blasing of Topeka; Kari (Matt) Blasing-Hicks of Portland, OR and Melissa Blasing of Portland, OR; grandchildren, Brock and Peyton Cobb of Lathrop, MO; Jade Christian of Kansas City, MO and Alexander and Nicholas Blasing of Topeka; her parents, W. Gale and Raemee Lee of Erie, KS; three siblings, Debra (Randy) Clayton of Topeka; Bruce Mullen of Erie, KS and Joretta (Larry) Stowe of Auburn, KS; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Ray & Alice Wamsley and John & Margaret Mullen.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 12 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, Topeka, from 5 pm until 7 pm. A celebration of life service will be held at 10 am on Friday, April 13 at Town and Country Christian Church, 4925 SW 29th ST., Topeka. Private inurnment will follow in the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, C/O of the funeral home.
