Sergeant Charles "Gadget" S. Allen, 37, of Topeka, died as a result of a helicopter crash in Northern Iraq January 8, 2006.
He was born May 23, 1968 in Anchorage, Alaska the son of Kenneth and Sharon Scott Allen.
Charles served in the United States Navy ten years before enlisting in the National Guard. He served in Iraq from August 2003 to February 2005 with the 2- 130th Field Artillery of the National Guard from Hiawatha, Kansas. He currently was serving in Iraq with Torres International as an information analyst.
He was a life member of Kingsbury-Chase Post # 1141 V.F.W. in Smith Center, Kansas.
Charles was married to Marina DePiesse. They later divorced. Survivors include his daughters, Alexandra Allen, Chapman, KS; Jacqueline Allen, Washington, D.C.; his parents, Sharon and Robert Gregory, Quenemo, KS, Kenneth and Tanya Allen, Centennial, CO; his maternal grandmother, Kay Gates, Ft. Myers, Florida, his paternal grandfather, Don Allen, Lebanon, KS; his uncles, Michael, Richard, Edward, Paul,William and Tom; his Aunts, Jackie, Marcia, Mary, Dell and Darlene; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Monday, January 16, 2006 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Graveside services will follow at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Price Cemetery, Lebanon, KS. Charles will lie in state after 12:00 noon Sunday at the funeral home.
