Sarah E. Crook, 96, Topeka, died Wednesday, September 8, 2010. She was born May 23, 1914 in Topeka to Francis and Jessie Mae (Sills) Benton.
She graduated from Topeka High School in 1932.
She was a wonderful caregiver, taking care of her mother, mother-in-law, raising her eight children and was a great "Aunt Sally" to many nieces and nephews. She was a prayer warrior and attended Grace Bible Church.
She married Lawrence L. Crook on May 27, 1933 in Topeka. He died March 23, 2005.
Mrs. Crook was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Edwin and Stephen Benton; sisters, Maude Crook and Esther Mai; son-in-law, Robert Sostrom; and great-great-granddaughter, Clara Grace Johnson. She is survived by sons and their wives, Larry (Dolly) Crook, Pueblo West, CO, Merle (Jimilee) Crook, Lawrence, Ted (Helen) Crook, Carbondale; daughters and their husbands, Jeanette (Newell) Hampton, Montrose, CO, Marjorie (Jack) Kramer, Topeka, Nancy (Dean) Rosa, Stet, MO, Jean (Doug) DeWitt, Wakarusa, Kim Taylor, Topeka; 27 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at Grace Bible Church, 4021 SE 37th. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, 4700 SW 17th. Sarah will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th, after 2:00 p.m. on Monday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
