Sandra Sue (Engel) Dexter, 79, of Topeka, passed away, Saturday, October 8, 2016.
She was born January 9, 1937 in Topeka, KS, the daughter of Harry and Edna Engel.
Sandra retired from the State of Kansas, as Bureau Chief of Driver's Licensing, after working for the state for 30 years. She was married to her husband David for 61 years, and they were long-time supporters of Washburn University sports. Sandra was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, proud and encouraging of all of her family.
Sandra is survived by her husband David M. Dexter, daughter Marsha Diggs (Michael), sons, Jeffrey Dexter (Terri) and Brett Dexter (Leann), seven grandchildren Cory Mills (Cat), Dale Dexter (Ashley), Alex Todd (Jason), Zachary Dickgrafe (Shardae), Keaton Dexter, Amanda Diggs, and Sandra "Sunny" Dexter as well as four great-grandchildren; Gregory Mills, III, Moira Mills, MacKenzie Prothroe-Tarrant and Lorelei Griffis.
She was preceded in death by her brother Rex Engel, and son, Scott Dexter.
Sandra will lie in state after 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 S.W. 10th Ave, Topeka, KS 66604, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. that evening. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 13 at the Mount Hope Funeral Chapel, 4700 S.W. 17th St, Topeka, KS 66604, with interment to follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.
